LENSES

So much is available in lenses today to make your glasses look and function better than ever before. The following is a list of some of these advancements and the benefits they provide. Please ask our optician for more information on any of these or others.

Scratch Resistant Coating: This coating hardens the surface of your lenses, and helps to resist scratches. We guarantee your lenses by replacing them one time within one year if you purchase this coating and they become scratched. Remember, nothing is scratch proof, so proper care and handling is always necessary, with or without the scratch coating.

Ultraviolet Treatment (UV): This important treatment is recommended for everyone's glasses. It helps protect your eyes from the harmful UV radiation from the sun and other sources. This is a clear treatment, and should not be confused with tinting, which just reduces the amount of light coming through the lens.

Anti-Reflective Coating: This multi-layered surface coating reduces the reflections off the front and back surface of the lens. This gives us a cosmetic advantage, because it almost makes the lenses disappear in the frames, making you look your best. It also gives us many functional benefits, as it reduces glare from any light source. This can be great for a number of situations including: night driving, computer work, or annoying flourescent lighting to name a few. A must for anyone at the computer, in the public eye, or with cataracts.

Photochromics: this type of lens is the type that gets darker outside and can double as a sunglass. This includes both plastic (Transitions) and traditional glass types.

Progressive Addition Lenses: (or no-line bifocal, or multifocals): these are not your typical lined bifocal. No lines are visible on these lenses, and their big advantage is they have the correct power in them for every distance, including intermediate like at the computer. New advances in this type of design have made these the lens of choice for most people over 40. Wider reading and intermediate zones have made these lenses very natural and comfortable to wear. We use only the best products including Varilux and Zeiss lenses.

Hi-Index Lenses: these are the thinner lenses on the market, and are constantly being improved. If you want your glasses and you to look your best, ask us which one would work best for your prescription. There are numerous ones on the market, and we have all the latest and greatest technology available now! Don't be fooled by our commercial competitors, they do NOT have any material we can't get, and they do NOT have the ability to get all the lens materials available to us, though they will tell you they can!

Polycarbonate: this is the safest material on the market because it is the most impact resistant material made. It is also a thinner and lighter material versus normal plastic. It also has UV protection built into it. It is an excellent choice for kids or sports enthusiasts. Lenscrafters likes to put their special name on it (FeatherWates®) and pretend no one else can get it, but it's really just a polycarbonate lens which anyone can get.
